The Youth Hostel is a former eighteenth century inn and the building retains many of its original features.
This is a rare chance to visit the western end of the Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountain. The hostel lies on the Beacons Way and we can walk from the door. Following the Beacons Way we can ascend Bannau Sir Gaer (750m) and Fan Brycheiniog (802m),the highest peaks of the Black Mountain. From here we can look down on the glacial lakes, the Llyn y Fans. Other walks lead into the limestone area. There is a red kite feeding centre at Llanddeusant
