Join Ian for a 13 mile circular walk on the North Kent downs. We shall start from Sole Street village, go through orchards to the Dickensian village of Cobham, join the North Downs Way for a short while, and then go through a mixture of farm and woodland. The planned lunch stop is at Harvel village green. There is a pub 100 yards away should you require a liquid supplement with your lunch. Please bring a packed lunch. No need to book, just turn up.
Meet: Sole Street Station 10.15. Grid ref: TQ 565 167.
Coming by Train: Catch the South Eastern 09.24 from Victoria to Canterbury East, arriving at Sole Street 10.10. Return trains are at 17 minutes past every hour.
If your travel involves the tube please check www.tfl.gov.uk for planned closures; if by train, check with www.chilternrailways.co.uk for any timetable changes.
For the possibility of buying a GroupSave 3 or 4 ticket (3 or 4 adults travel for the price of 2), be at the main ticket office at 09:00 and look out for other members of Ibex.
Coming by Car: There is ample parking at Sole Street Station. If using satnav or your A–Z index, make sure you are aiming for the Sole Street near Gravesend/Rochester, not the Sole Street near Ashford!
Maps: OS Explorer 148 Maidstone and the Medway Towns. OS Landranger is not as useful as the walk requires 2 maps: sheet 177 East London and sheet 178 Thames Estuary.
Please Bring: Rucksack to carry snacks and a packed lunch and water/drink/flask, waterproofs and spare warm clothing. Usually a good idea to wear walking boots in case it is muddy. Please avoid wearing jeans as these do not dry quickly if they get wet. If it is sunny please bring plenty of water/drink plus sun hat and suncream.
