Ibex Mountain & Hillwalking Club is a hiking, mountaineering and walking club based in London.
Ibex Mountain & Hillwalking Club is a friendly, inclusive club. Our members are hill walkers and mountaineers of all ages, social backgrounds and experience. We welcome new members to join us on our weekends away.
Coronavirus: On December 2nd, London entered tier 2, allowing us to run hotel-based weekends and day walks. Club nights and climbing nights are being held on Zoom. (Ibex coronavirus information).
Ibex weekend trips go to the mountains and the coast. Our favourite locations include the Lake District, Snowdonia, Yorkshire, Dartmoor and the Peak District. We usually stay in bunkhouses, mountain huts and hostels keeping costs down.
Ibex organises six to nine day walks each year. Walks start from a railway station, a short journey from London. They're a good way to get to know Ibex members and to build your fitness before coming on an Ibex weekend for the first time.
We meet on the second Tuesday evening of each month in central London (currently holding meetings virtually). There is usually a slideshow or workshop. If you're thinking of joining Ibex it's a good opportunity to meet members and to find out more about the club.
Ibex organises week trips to Scotland staying in self-catering cottages, so its more deluxe than our weekends - a great way to get to the remote hills. We also do an annual hut to hut trip in the Alps or other European mountains.
Scrambling and climbing are an option on some of our weekends. The club organises informal monthly climbing evenings at a variety of London climbing walls so that those members who climb can practice together.
